Nigerians travelling to the UK no longer need to pay the 3,000 pounds bond.
The British Government has scrapped the planned N750, 000 (£3,000) visa bond for first time visa to the United Kingdom from Nigeria and five other Commonwealth countries.
The Communications Manager of the British High Commission, Abuja, David Atile, on Monday stated that “the UK government remains committed to tackling immigration abuse and has been looking at a range of options. One of those options was a financial bond. The British Government has now decided not to proceed with the option of a financial bond.”
Quoting a spokesperson of the British Home Office, Mr. Atile said, “The Government has been considering whether we pilot a bond scheme that would deter people from overstaying the visa. We have decided not to proceed.”
The High Commission also said that it has written the Nigerian government informing it of the decision to cancel the planned bond.
